On 9 November 2020, Austria saw “Operation Luxor”, one of the biggest police operations in the Second Republic's fight against alleged terrorism by Muslims. Over 900 officers searched 60 homes in four provinces at the same time. Those affected were mainly families whose homes were forcibly opened in the early hours of the morning. Despite the massive deployment, no weapons were found and no charges were brought. Many of those affected still report a lack of transparency, significant intrusions into their private lives and pending legal clarifications. The effects on children are particularly serious: more than 60 minors were subjected to the raids. Studies document lasting trauma, anxiety and sleep disorders. For many families, the stress continues to this day.
The project approaches "Operation Luxor" from an artistic and documentary perspective. Interviews, legal research and exchanges with those affected form the basis.
Theaterkollektiv Hybrid was founded by director and author Alireza Daryanavard and brings together interdisciplinary artists who deal with socio-political issues. The collective was already featured at the Theater am Werk in autumn 2023 with their production Stadt unter Belagerung – Teil 1: Sarajevo.
