A city in ruins that refuses to go under. A balloon, a grin, a bubble of chewing gum. A city in ruins that resists by breathing and laughing. A city as a diorama, small enough for a table. Big enough for resistance. The small becomes big, the miniature monumental. A world within a world. Resistance within resistance. Again. And again. Once upon a time, people gathered at the monument in the main square. Around the fountain, they laughed, celebrated and made decisions. Together. That was then. But the square is coming back, the gatherings continue and tradition refuses to disappear. The city breathes through those who inhabit it. The situation is serious, which is why laughter is too.

Humour survives and keeps us alive, a tool of resistance. Speaking loudly or laughing means resisting. Sometimes a joke weighs more heavily than a decree, hits home better than a weapon. Humour is not escapism. Humour loses its composure, stands its ground, remains resistance. Looking at the city, a miniature of another world flashes into view. A world that shines. A world that is being tried. A world that is spoken into being, out loud. We invite you to become part of this gathering – resistance finds a home, OUT LOUD.

OUT LOUD – Resistance is the second part of the OUT LOUD trilogy, the first production of which premiered on 20 October 2023 at the Theater am Werk am Petersplatz. Gobo Performs was founded in 2023 by two performers after almost a decade of working together in theatre. With each project, the collective grows and opens up to new voices and practices. Like the gobo – the frame on a spotlight that focuses and directs the stage lighting – Gobo Performs understands theatre as a practice of focusing and illuminating.
